If you reside in Lancaster County, Nebraska, a burn permit is required for controlled open-air burning. These permits help our department monitor active fires, coordinate with local emergency dispatch, and ensure public safety during adverse weather conditions.

Steps to Complete Your Application

Confirm your burn location is inside the Southeast Rural Fire Protection District.

Gather Information
Have your full name, address, contact information, precise burn address, items being burned, and who will be supervising.

Read and acknowledge the safety requirements, weather restrictions, and local laws for all open burning operations.

Who is eligible for a burn permit?
Residents within the Southeast Rural Fire Department's fire district are eligible. Please confirm your address falls within our jurisdiction before applying.
How long does the approval process take?
Online applications will be processed each Tuesday. You will receive an email containing your burn permit once your permit is approved by the end of the following Wednesday.
What materials are prohibited?
Prohibited materials include building materials, treated lumber, railroad ties, plastics, tires, rubber, oil, pesticides, herbicides, hazardous materials, and household garbage.
What happens if weather conditions change?
Permits are automatically suspended during Red Flag Warnings, state issued burn bans, or wind conditions higher than 15 mph.
